Report: SUNS FALL TO LIONS IN WBBL CUP

The Suns women suffered a heartbreaking defeat to London Lions in their season's opening Cup game on Sunday, 81-76. The Suns got off to a slow start trailing 24-18 after one quarter. They battled back to take a 42-33 lead at halftime and led by 11, 62-51 after 3. The Suns still led by 6 with 5 minutes to go, but couldn’t hold on.

Last year’s League MVP, Cat Carr led the Suns with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Newcomer Frankie Wurtz added 16 points in her first game as a Sun. Julia Kopple added 14 points and 8 rebounds and Renee Busch contributed 14 points and 6 assists in a very balanced Suns attack.

Head Coach Len Busch had this to say: “It was a pretty good performance against a very strong London Lions team. Cat and Frankie had only just arrived in the UK and had one practice. We haven’t had 10 players in practice yet. I think we’re going to be a very good team. Lot’s to work on but that what we will do, get to work and get better.”
