We recently caught up with two junior players to find out how they have been getting on ad what they have been doing to keep themselves entertained during lockdown. Iris Fairbairn and Elodie de Jonge are good friends, both on and off the basketball court. As you will be able to read from the Q&A session below, they have been able to keep busy, although they are clearly missing their fellow club members and activities…
Q1: What/who do you miss the most about the Suns during lockdown?
AI: The coaches.
AE: The coaches.
Q2: How have you stayed busy or active during the last few months?
AI: I have been going for walks, doing indoor cycling and I have taken up skateboarding.
AE: I have been doing HIIT classes and skateboarding. When the weather was ok, I have also used my own basketball hoop in the garden.
Q3: Do you believe that staying active is important during these difficult times?
AI: YES!
AE: YES!
Q4: Can you tell us the funniest jokes you have heard or told during the lockdown?
AI: Why did the dinosaur cross the road? Because the chicken didn’t exist yet!
AE: What is the difference between a cat and a comma? A cat has claws at the end of its paws and a comma is a pause at the end of a clause!
Q5: What is the first thing you would like to do as soon as basketball is allowed again?
AI: Play matches!
AE: Play a tournament!
Q6: If you had to describe the Suns to someone who doesn't know the club at all, how would you do this?
AI: The coaches are amazing, and the club is great for a beginner!
AE: Nice coaches, a great club for anyone at any level, and it is great fun!
Q7: What do you think the single common characteristic of all Suns players and coaches might be?
AI: Everyone encourages each other.
AE: Everyone is kind.
Q8: Can you share your funniest Suns story?
AI: When someone went for a fancy lay-up and I managed to intercept and take the ball off them. The element of surprise to an experienced player made it very entertaining!AE: When Evie and I accidentally turned off all the lights on the court…we mistook the switch which was OFF for the one which was ON, and switched all the others OFF too, thinking we were switching them ON….you get the (pitch black) picture!
